Twenty-nine-year-old Stevie Sinclair has just lost everything: her boyfriend, her apartment, even her ugly bird named Free. (Yeah, she knows it’s stupid name, so don’t start.) But most importantly, Stevie’s lost herself.
As she shuffles through her days in worn-out Hello Kitty PJs—eating ice cream, sipping wine, and contemplating her next move—a magazine article catches her attention. Blaring black letters read: "How to Get Your Sexy Back in Six Easy Steps."
Stevie studies the article in the trashy magazine like the good student she is and immediately knows what she has to do. With the magazine article in hand, and a bottle of red in her bag, Stevie embarks on a journey to reclaim her life and win back her ex.
Until she meets Gabe Shannon. Gorgeous, single, and on a quest of his own, Gabe introduces Stevie to a lifestyle that is sure to help get her sexy back and then some. If she doesn’t chicken out … (Oh, you know where this is going.)
What follows is a story of self-discovery, romantic gestures, erotic encounters, and following one's heart--even if it leads in unexpected directions.
I received Dirty Little Lies as an ARC via NetGalley, and unfortunately I wasn’t exactly impressed by this book.
Dirty Little Lies is the story of Stevie Sinclair, who just found out that her boyfriend cheated on her, presumably because he was getting tired of not being able to provide her with wild nights of sex – let alone a single orgasm. After a couple of days of moping around, Stevie comes across an article about “Getting Your Sexy Back”, and decides to fake her self-confidence ’til she makes it. In a bold move, she puts on her best dress and goes out for a drink at a hotel lobby.
But she’s not alone for long, and soon enough, the good looking hotel manager Gabe Shannon is by her side and personally looking after her entertainment. As she confides her plan to him, he is determined to help her get her sexy back in the most unexpected ways.
Dirty Little Lies is unfortunately your usual story of the wounded yet self-confident alpha-male introducing a naive and somewhat unexperienced girl to a more devious sex-life – in other words: he introduces her into voyeuristic, swinger-type clubs.
And as usual, the heroine, who used to be so shy and non-vocal about her sex-life and sexual preferences, goes all out and enjoys the heck out of her introduction. Stevie almost goes from a virgin to a vixen, and sheds her self-consciousness and prude attitude in just a matter of several pageturns. And off course, you have the usual love story that unfolds as h/H get closer to each other every day.
And the ending really wasn’t spectacular either. I finished the book for the sake of finishing it, but do believe that your reading time would be much better spend on a book with a more original storyline.
