The third part in The Blackstone Affair series: A love on the brink of being destroyed. The fight of a lifetime to keep it alive.
Big surprises are on the horizon for Ethan and Brynne as they struggle to adjust to what life has thrown at them. Demons from the past are threatening to destroy the passionate bond they’ve forged despite their vow that nothing will ever keep them apart. A truly devastating loss coupled with the promise of a new hope opens their eyes to what is most important, but is it possible for the lovers to move on from the painful histories that continue to haunt them?
A stalker is still lurking in the shadows, plotting evil amidst the distraction of the 2012 Olympic games in London. Brynne and Ethan are on the cusp of losing everything as the stakes rise. Will they yield to circumstances beyond their control or will they give every ounce of fight they have left to save each other and win the ultimate prize of a life together?
Finally! After the wait, the third part of the Blackstone Affair has been released and I was never so eager to put my hands on a new release as I was when it came to Eyes Wide Open by wonderful author Raine Miller.
Obviously, this book starts with the more or less “cliffhanging” situation we were left with by the end of All In. Ethan Blackstone is the owner of a security company in London, and happens to be an ex-special forces military. He is given the assignment to keep an eye on an old friend’s daughter, Brynne Bennet, a young american art student. Inevitably, the two of them fall in love and discover each other’s pasts. Especially Brynne’s, since what happened in her past comes back haunting her today, to a point where her life is actually threatened.
Following the last threat, which involved a fake bomb alert in an art gallery as well as threatening texts, Ethan and Brynne flee to the countryside to visit Ethan’s sister. And as we all guessed by the end of All In, there are other things to expect between the two of them!
The whole third part of the Blackstone Affair turns to something even more romantic because of this, but thank god, it is never cheesy! It is actually written from alterning points of view, whereas the first part was from Brynne’s point of view, and the second from Ethan’s (still my favourite!), and I loved it because it kept Ethan’s fabulous sense of humor, and his really hot dirty talk.
The both of them get to know each other even more than before and Ethan evolves from alpha-male to careful and protective soon-to-be husband and father, which can only make any woman’s heart melt and swoon when reading Eyes Wide Open. I am a sucker for “pregnancy” stories, where the couple finds out, and had to deal with the news, and then cope with the pregnancy, but sometimes, it just becomes totally cheesy. Raine Miller however, makes Brynne and Ethan’s story the loveliest and most romantic ever.
The two of them make a perfect couple, both vulnerable, but strong when it comes to fighting for each other, and ultimately for their unborn child. And in the end, don’t think that this book is all hearts and flowers. Of course, Raine Miller keeps up a crazy intriguing plot which triggers a whole lot of suspense in Brynne and Ethan’s quest for happiness. Other than that, the author put a lot of detail and meaning into the side characters, who are mainly Ethan’s family, and that makes them just as loveable as the main characters.
So all in all, it was a great read and a great ending (?) to the Blackstone Affair. I was afraid it wouldn’t be possible to step into the footsteps of the 2 first books, and that the third might not be as good, but it was just as good as its predecessors (not better, since you can’t compare two different things) and full of fun (Raine Miller confers a great sense of humor to her characters), love, suspense and hmm… really good sex from what I can read!
There might even be a fourth book coming out, relating to Brynne and Ethan’s happily ever after. All I can say is that I can’t wait, since I definitely love whatever comes out of Raine Miller’s imagination.
