Verbally abused by her mother for years, 18 year old Ellie Johnson always believed she would never be loved or wanted by anyone. She focused all of her attention on her grades and getting into the University of Texas to start a new life away from her mother.
The last thing Ellie expected was to fall in love with Gunner Mathews, a starting linebacker for the University of Texas football team and not to mention, her brothers best friend.
Gunner only had two passions in life, football and his grandfather’s ranch, until he falls for his best friends little sister. He will stop at nothing to show Ellie how much he wants her, even if it means he has to move faster than she would like.
Gunner knows they are meant to be together forever, but Ellie keeps denying her feelings out of fear of being hurt again.
Every time he gets close to winning her love, something pushes her away again. Will Ellie ever be able to let go of the past and let him into her heart and will Gunner be patient enough to wait for her?
What will it take for them to realize they are all each other have ever WANTED?
Ellie Johnson has been verbally abused by her mother for years, which has taken a huge toll of her self-esteem. Especially after finding out that her boyfriend cheated on her, she is now certain that she will never be worthy of anyone’s love. And when Drew “Gunner” Matthews, her brother Jefferson’s best friend, comes barreling into her life and falls head over heels in love with her, she can’t help but wonder if she could ever be wanter by him, and if he could give up her player ways just for her.
In the meantime, another story is brewing between Ellie’s brother and her best friend Ari Peterson. The two can’t stand each other, but all their fights are just hiding the feelings they have for each other. When will they finally be able to see what’s in front of them and give in to their feelings?
This book started out as a dual POV between Ellie and Gunner and from the first chapters on it was pretty clear that those two would end up together one way or another (their mutual attraction having been made clear from the start), and the plot thus seemed pretty standard and predictable.
But what made the story so enjoyable was that halfway through the book, we were actually introduced to Ari and Jeff’s point of views, and able to follow their own story, which was not as straightforward and predictable as Ellie and Gunner’s – at all!
I really loved the characters, especially Gunner who is a total sweatheart, king of romance and of all reformed manwhores; but also Ari, who was funny as hell and the kind of tough cookie girl I like to read about. As far as the Johnson family goes, both Ellie and Jeff really, really needed a good slap on their face and some eye-opening on their irrational and sometimes childish behaviour – but anyway!
As a negative, I would definitely have to call out on the many editing errors and lack of correct punctuation which were unfortunately way too present…
But if you like a swoony and blissful new adult read set in Texas and with just the right amount of country flair, a bit of steamy scenes (but not too much – the best is being kept for the next books in the series), then you will definitely enjoy Wanted. But beware: while Ellie and Gunner manage to get their crap together, a huge cliffhanger awaits you where Ari and Jeff are concerned!
It personally made me jump straight into the next book, which I recommend just as wholeheartedly as Wanted!
